The Philip Morris Employee Community Fund has awarded the Miracle League of Richmond a $50,000 grant that will be used to build a “boundless playground” to provide safe recreational opportunities, using specially adapted equipment for children with disabilities. The play-ground will be located on the site of the Miracle League Field at the county’s Bird Sports Complex. The Miracle League of Richmond opened its field in September 2007, a Miracle League milestone as Virginia’s first Miracle Field. The Aquatic Center is being built through a partnership between the Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club and Poseidon Swimming Foundation at the intersection of Chippenham Parkway and Route 10. The center will be part of a 34.5-acre, multimillion-dollar sports complex that also will boast four artificial turf soccer fields and two natural grassfields with lighting. with two Olympic-sized pools, it is expected that state, regional and national level swimming competitions will be held year-round, making Chesterfield County a destination for athletes from across the nation. The Meadowdale Library dedication will be at 3 p.m. Fri-day, Nov. 14. The new 20,000-square-foot facility is located at 4301 Meadowdale Blvd. Customers will find more parking spaces, a larger children’s area, a larger public meeting room, increased seating and workspace, and more computers with wireless Internet access. An opening date will be announced soon. Call 318-8778 for more information. The county was successful in obtaining Bike and Pedestrian Safety funds to construct sidewalk on the south side of Cogbill Road from Chesterwood Drive to Meadowbrook High School. VDOT will manage the project and hopes to have it under construction in 2011. Cash proffers will be used to pay for the realignment of the curve and add turn lanes on Newbys Bridge Road at Jacobs Road. Construction is planned for next summer.
