Matoaca District Community Connections News

Marleen K. Durfee, Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors

Matoaca News

In the first 60 days of the year, more than 300 residents attended four “Bringing it to the People” town hall
meetings held by Supervisor Durfee, Planning Commissioner Wayne Bass and School Board Member Omarh Rajah throughout the district.

Two road projects will begin this summer. McEnnally Road will be widened to two lanes between Spring Run and Winterpock roads. Improvements also will be made to the curve on Qualla Road at Belcherwood Road, north of Spring Run Road. Upcoming community meetings will discuss road improvements on Otterdale and Woolridge roads.

The former Beach Railroad Station, located on Beach Road, has been designated as a county, state and federal historic landmark. The station served the community during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

A sidewalk project will begin soon along Hickory and River roads between Woodpecker Road and James Street.

A new roadway and parking lot for the soccer field at Clover Hill Athletic Complex is under way. Additions to
the baseball/football field at Spring Run Athletic Complex are almost done. Both projects will be completed by fall.

The board has agreed to enter into a lease with the state to construct a two-mile river walk along the Appomattox River at Virginia State University’s Randolph Farm.

With board approval in January, Supervisor Durfee recommended the revision of the Upper Swift Creek Plan to address land use, levels of service (roads, schools and public safety), water quality and economic development.
