Commonwealth's Attorney

Chesterfield's Commonwealth's Attorney is William W. Davenport, who directs 21 assistant commonwealth's attorneys who provide Chesterfield County with more than 300 years of legal experience, including 267 years in criminal prosecution. These seasoned career prosecutors represent Chesterfield County residents, the Chesterfield County Police Department, as well as other law enforcement agencies.

The office provides additional services to inform citizens about our criminal justice system. The office represents the county's interest in the forfeiture of defendants' assets in drug-related crimes. It also works closely with police officers and magistrates to provide 24-hour-a-day legal advice. Members of the staff teach at the Police Academy and conduct mock trials to educate state and local law enforcement personnel. The office contributes each year to the county's legislative package in the areas of criminal law and procedure.
