Please bring proper identification, and be advised of the following:

Personal-property items (purses, pouches, etc.) are not allowed in the facility and should be left in the car during visitation. All visitors are subject to electronic search upon entry. Please refrain from wearing shorts, hats, tank tops and T-shirts with derogatory logos or advertisements. How can I find out if a juvenile is detained?

During the intake procedure of a juvenile, one of our staff will call to notify you of your child’s placement in detention. You will be given an opportunity to speak briefly with your child. We will address any questions you may have at that time.

Can I bond out my child?

Contact the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Clerks Office 8 a.m.-4.p.m., Monday-Friday or call at (804) 748-1379 for all your questions; however, if it’s during non-court working hours, then you need to call the magistrate at (804) 748-1410 with your questions or concerns.

I have a child who is out of control and will not listen. What can I do?

The Chesterfield Community Services Board functions as the Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Department for Chesterfield County. If your child is defiant and out of control, call Mental Health Services at (804) 768-7204.

The Chesterfield Department of Youth Planning and Development’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for youths and families in Chesterfield County, to promote youth development and to prevent delinquency. Call (804) 796-7100.

What can I bring my child while he or she is in detention?

Yes, state law requires that your child attend school while in detention, even if he or she has graduated or has received a GED.

Does the Juvenile Detention Home offer religious services?

My child is court ordered to spend weekends in detention. What is the drop-off and pick-up procedure?

Your child needs to arrive at the detention home no earlier than 6 p.m. on the Friday of the weekend your child is to start. The child is then picked up at the same time on Sunday as he or she arrived to the detention home that Friday.

Example: A child dropped off at 7:15 p.m. Friday must be picked up at 7:15 p.m. Sunday.

My child is court ordered to the Weekend Work Program. What is the drop-off and pick-up procedure?

After your child has been accepted into the Weekend Work Program, the drop off time is between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m. in the big parking lot on the side of the building (near the picnic tables). Pick-up is at 3:30 p.m. that day in the same location.

Can I bring my child to the detention home and admit him or her to teach them a lesson?

No, the youths in detention are put there by court order.

Does the Chesterfield Juvenile Detention Home offer a program similar to “Scared Straight”?

CJDH does not offer a scared straight program; however, in certain situations our administrators will schedule an evening appointment with parents and their child for a briefing on the detention home and how it works. Call Charles Tucker or Willie May at (804) 748-1460 for further information.
