Housing Program

The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a federally funded rent subsidy program which enables low-income families to choose and lease safe, decent, and affordable rental housing. The family is required to pay 30 percent of their household income towards rent and utilities; the Virginia Housing Development Authority pays the remainder. Housing inspections are done initially and annually. Families are responsible for finding their own housing which can be located in Virginia or in another state.

Social Services administers the Housing Choice Voucher Program for Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights.  The waiting list is closed, so no new applications are being accepted at this time.

If you own a home that you would like to rent under this program, contact the Housing Program at 717-6832 to find out how.
