Division Background
Waste and Resource Recovery is one of eight divisions within the Department of General Services. Our division consists of six distinct service sections: administration, convenience centers, collections, recycling, closed landfill management and an anti-litter program.
The mission of Waste and Resource Recovery is “To effectively and efficiently provide customers with high quality refuse, recycling, and related community support services while being responsible protectors of the environment.” Our mission will be achieved by providing responsive, effective, safe and environmentally acceptable solid waste collection and disposal options to all citizens of Chesterfield County.
Waste and Resource Recovery provides a number of services to a diverse customer base. Our primary focus is on customer service. We continually strive to perform our duties to exceed our customers' expectations.
Service specific surveys will be developed and conducted to ensure Waste and Resource Recovery continually meets the customers' needs for solid waste services at a reasonable cost. In addition to customer surveys, the division will conduct focus groups and interview our customers. This will help maintain the effectiveness and efficiencies of solid waste programs.
The solid waste management field is dynamic and increasingly more complex due to the ever changing regulatory and technological arena in which solid waste professionals operate. The challenge is to integrate and manage all the available resources within the Richmond region and provide the citizens of Chesterfield County with "First Choice" services.
The success of programs and services will be measured by customer feedback and budget data. This feedback will take various forms. However, the important point is that customer feedback is always requested, analyzed, and given serious consideration.
