Recruiting Announcement

Position: Police Officer

Salary: $39,000 and take home vehicle program

Minimum Basic Qualifications:Chesterfield County Police Logo

  • Be a U.S.citizen.
  • Be 21 years of age prior to completion of our training academy, have 60 college credit hours or two years law enforcement experience or two years continuous active duty military experience or at least 3 years employment or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Pass a written and physical agility test.
  • Possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months, or a DUI conviction in the past four years.
  • Vision of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20.
  • Weight in proportion to height.
  • No convictions of felonies and/or serious and habitual misdemeanors.
  • No prolonged/recent use of marijuana.
  • Pass an extensive background investigation including a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening.
  • Ability to speak clearly, hear, analyze and react quickly to high stress situations.
  • Ability to maintain security, custody and control of combative prisoners.

Applicants will be eliminated for significant omissions or falsifications on any documents prepared in conjunction with the application process.

Attention: Certified Law Enforcement Officers

Chesterfield County is offering an excellent opportunity for you. We currently have openings in our Pre-Certified Academy designed for those individuals who have previously met minimum basic training standards for the position of police officer in the state of Virginia, or another state. Selected officers will participate in an abbreviated eleven week academy training program followed by a eight week field training program. To be eligible, you must:

  • Be employed within the last six months in a sworn law enforcement position as a patrol officer, patrol deputy or detective,
  • Have at least three years of continuous full-time service with your current or most recent law enforcement agency, and
  • Successfully pass all phases of our police officer selection process.

Starting salary determined in accordance to departmental guidelines.
