Video: How to Vote

Voting Instructions for Optical Scan System

dotUse the marking device in the voting booth to blacken the oval next to the candidate of your choice. If you are voting absentee, then use either a black ballpoint pen or a No. 2 pencil to mark your ballot.

Be sure to completely fill in the oval and stay within the lines of the oval like this: pic

To vote for a person not on the ballot, completely fill in the oval to the left of the “Write-in” line provided and write the name of the person in the space provided. (Write-in votes are NOT allowed in a primary election.)

If you change your mind or make a mistake on your ballot, please contact an election official at your voting location to obtain another ballot. If you are voting absentee and make a mistake, please call 804-748-1471 for assistance.

Please contact an election official for help if you have any questions.

Once you have marked your ballot, then take it to the counter – carrying it face down – and insert it face down into the vote counter.

If you are voting absentee, re-fold and place your ballot in the proper envelope and mail it to the Registrar’s office (see absentee instructions sent with your ballot.)
