HHHunt, the developer of Branner Station, continues to work with the Virginia Department of Transportation to complete VDOT’s traffic-study requirements. HHHunt has indicated current economic conditions have significantly impacted their initial development schedule. HHHunt is evaluating market conditions and expects to update their development schedule over the next few months. The county has been meeting with the U.S. Postal Service to discuss possible ZIP code changes to allow residents and businesses in the 23237 and 23834 areas to use Chester, Virginia as their mailing address. No decisions have yet been finalized. A German automotive supplier, Electronic Precision Technology, will open a $5 million facility in River’s Bend in October, creating more than 50 jobs over the next three years. Boulevard Flowers, located on Ruffin Mill Road, was named the 2008 Business of the Year. Owners Mark and Francine Landa were recognized for their support of family and work issues. Trainor Glass Company opened a new facility on Ware Bottom Spring Road, investing about $5.3 million. Twenty-fve new jobs will be created and 72 others transferred there. The county is working on plans to improve the curve on Branders Bridge Road, south of Happy Hill Road, with construction anticipated to begin next summer. Work, including the enlargement of the football field, additional parking, a concession trailer pad and utilities, has been completed at Goyne/Ecoff Park and Athletic Complex. Improvements at Chester Middle School, including expanding the soccer field, installing fencing and lighting of the relocated baseball field is anticipated to be completed by the end of the month.
