The Brandermill Community Association will be hiring a consultant to modernize the development’s master plan for the first time since it was developed in 1974. The board selected Richmond-based Designforum, a firm of land planers, urban designers and landscape architects. It is anticipated that the updated plan will be a more contemporary vision for the 2,800-acre mixed-use development. The recommendations should be completed prior to the county’s review of its comprehensive plan, which is scheduled to begin early next year. The updated plan will include landscaping, transportation, open space, commercial development and public facilities that will be incorporated into the county’s new guidelines. Community meetings currently are being held to gather input from residents.

A project to construct two right-turn lanes on Courthouse Road to Route 360 West is expected to begin construction in the summer of 2012. This project is funded with federal CMAQ funds, and VDOT is managing the project. A scoping meeting for the project was held last November.

The new Reams-Gordon library is in the design phase and construction should begin next fall. The property has been acquired on Smoke Tree Drive at Courthouse Road, just south of the fire station. The architects for the project are The Design Collaborative located in Virginia Beach. The library should be similar in size to LaPrade and Meadowdale libraries.

Construction will begin next spring on a project to construct 300 feet of sidewalk that will close a gap on Walmsley Boulevard near Manchester Middle School Athletic Complex .
