 William E. Johnson, III
Deputy County Administrator for Management Services
As Chesterfield County’s Deputy County Administrator for Management Services, beginning January 7, 2008, Johnson oversees the Management Services Division, including the departments of Real Estate Assessment, License Inspector, General Services, Accounting, Purchasing, Internal Audit, Information Systems Technology, Registrar and Risk Management. He also will serve as the liaison to the county’s elected Constitutional Officers.
Johnson, who previously served as city manager of College Park, GA, where he was recognized for leading the change movement, has previously served as Deputy City Manager of Richmond, VA, and also was County Administrator, Deputy Co. Administrator, and Director of Finance in Prince George County, VA. He served as Director of Finance in Louisa County and Accounting and Budget Director in New Kent County.
Johnson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Hampton University and his Masters of Business Administration from Averett University. He is a member of Kappa Alpha PSI Fraternity. Johnson also is a member of the International City/County Managers Association, and a member and national board member of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators. Johnson has served on the Executive Committee for Virginia Local Government Management Association.
Johnson has attended the Leadership Metro Richmond (2002) and Senior Executive Institute (1999). He has served on the Richmond Ambulance Authority Board, Peumansend Creek Regional Jail Authority, Central Virginia Boys and Girls Club Board, Jesse Draper Boys and Girls Club Board and Crater Juvenile Detention Center. Johnson has also coached several of the Richmond Metro AAU basketball teams. Johnson has received several awards and recognitions for his work in the community.
