Education
and Training
Education and training are top priorities for Chesterfield County and
the surrounding area. The county has the largest school system in the
Richmond Metropolitan Area and has established innovative programs to
serve an increasingly diverse student body.
Close ties with local businesses and industries mean 21st century skills
are being developed in the area's universities.
All of the area's educational programs and curriculum emphasize lifetime
learning and continuous improvement for all students.
More than 58,000 students, or one-fifth of the county's population,
attend its 62 public schools. Chesterfield is among the 100 largest
school districts in the nation, offering a full range of services to
meet the
needs of all students. More than 88 percent of the school system's
graduates continue their education beyond high school. An agreement
with John Tyler Community College allows students to get both high
school
and college credit for certain courses while still in school. Virginia
State University, also located in Chesterfield County, offers a four-year
program.
