Chesterfield County Fire and EMS is a system of several distinct volunteer organizations that work in harmony with career firefighters and medics to provide the citizens of Chesterfield with the best care available. Whether it is the fire service, or rescue squad, you have a home with Chesterfield volunteers!

The volunteer fire service in Chesterfield County is comprised of twelve volunteer fire companies operating out of stations that are staffed with both career and volunteer personnel. This combination system varies from station to station ensuring our citizens are protected at all times.

Volunteer firefighters receive training right here in Chesterfield from State and Nationally certified instructors. To accomplish this, Chesterfield Fire offers two Volunteer Recruit Schools per year. The recruit school covers the material and certifications you will need to become an active participant on the fire ground and include the following:

  • Fire Fighter I
  • Fire Fighter II
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness
  • Hazardous Materials Operations
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations
  • CPR (Healthcare Provider)
  • Technical Rescue
  • Incident Command System

The recruit school concept was developed in response to volunteers desire to obtain the necessary training in an efficient manner and start participating with their fellow volunteer and career firefighters. We hope that you will decide to join our team at Chesterfield Fire and EMS.

When you call 911 for a medical emergency, the rescue squads of Chesterfield Fire and EMS respond. Each squad has highly trained volunteers available at a moments notice. If you like challenge and excitement, being part of a team of volunteer and career professionals, and are willing to learn life-saving skills, give our family at Chesterfield a try.

No previous experience is required. You can receive your training at our state of the art training facility. Certified instructors teach CPR, EMT, Paramedic, Incident Command, Hazmat Awareness, and other courses. Chesterfield County is a leader in Virginia for pre-hospital emergency care.

We need volunteers to help us behind the scenes as well. If responding to calls just isn’t for you, volunteer your talents to assist in the office, meal preparation, or helping others to discover the rewards of being part of a wonderful, caring group of people. For more information, call David Tesh at Chesterfield Fire and EMS (804) 748-1629 or e-mail at TeshD@chesterfield.gov.
