Training & Safety
Mission Statement
Our staff of full-time and part-time personnel strives to deliver high quality training and education to the members of Chesterfield Fire & EMS, and students from allied organizations, so that they have the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to deliver great service Safely, Effectively, and Efficiently.
Core Services
The Training & Safety Division provides many
services and programs to support our personnel and the organization.
These programs and services are grouped under six core services:
- Fire Training
- EMS Training
- Personnel Development
- Safety/Health
- Administrative and physical resource management
- CFEMS and countywide support
Division Performance Plan Measures
Goal #1: Deliver a systematic, comprehensive, and integrated training program to all personnel in the Emergency Operations Division that enables them to manage the consequences of fire, medical, hazardous materials, and technical rescue emergencies.
- Objective 1.1 - Provide Fire Company In-service Training for the management of the consequences of fire, medical, hazardous materials, and technical rescue emergencies to all career and volunteer firefighters and officers three times each fiscal year.
- Objective 1.2 – Provide incumbent ALS providers with Continuing Education classes necessary for them to maintain state certification.
- Objective 1.3 – Provide incumbent BLS providers with Continuing Education classes necessary for them to maintain state certification.
Goal #2: Deliver training programs that support organizational Succession Planning and Talent Management
- Objective 2.1 - Provide incumbent officers with the Continuing Education classes that promote their development as leaders in the organization.
- Objective 3.2 - Provide those firefighters seeking promotion to the rank of Lieutenant with the necessary knowledge and skills for that position prior to their promotion.
Goal #3: Effectively and efficiently manage the travel arrangements of CFEMS personnel attending training and development activities outside Chesterfield County.
- Objective 4.1 - Requests for travel to conferences, symposia and training programs are processed within CFEMS Travel Policy and County Accounting Department guidelines.
Goal #4: Improve the storage of training records for CFEMS personnel within the Training & Safety Division.
- Objective 5.1 - Convert the individual hard copy files of training certifications and records in TSD to electronic files, stored on TSD public drive, using document-scanning technology.
Goal #5: Improve member access to Training & Safety Division information via the division’s intranet site.
- Objective 6.1 – Convert the Training & Safety intranet site to the new County portal to improve TSD staff’s ability to provide its customers with timely and accurate information regarding training and educational opportunities, training records, and safety information.
