for other county training. The Police Department has four, forty-student
classrooms, three role playing rooms, a Firearms Simulator training room,
a Forensic training lab, capabilities for a driving simulator, a vehicle
bay, a conference room and administrative offices. Shared facilities include;
a physical training area and locker rooms; four shared classrooms with
moveable walls that provide multiple configurations for varying size groups;
a communications training classroom with the capability to receive Law
Enforcement Television Network broadcasts via satellite. This facility
was named after retired Fire Chief Robert Eanes and retired Police Chief
Joseph E. Pittman, Jr.
Public Safety Training Complex
The Public Safety Training Complex, which is currently under development,
is an adjunct training facility to the Eanes-Pittman Public Safety Training
Center. It will provide specialized training for police and fire personnel
under realistic, yet controlled and safe operating conditions.
The first phase of development, a small arms firing range, has been completed.
This range provides an innovative approach to firearms training. The new
range accommodates typical target shooting as well as tactical training
through the use of moving pneumatic actuated targets. The range used a
fluid covered bullet trap that is environmentally friendly and is completely
baffled to reduce the chance of stray rounds exiting the range. All targets
are electronically controlled from a range control room that has been
situated through the use of computer modeling to take full advantage of
prevailing winds to reduce airborne contaminants from primer and powder
residue. There is also a state-of-the-art classroom for instructional
purposes.
Future phases of development will included an emergency vehicle operators
training facility with a 1 1/2 mile track, an urban driver training area,
a skid pad, facilities for cone courses and a small support building with
a classroom. These facilities will permit high quality driver training
for sworn officers and will be controlled through state-of-the-art radio
frequency technology from a centrally located control tower.
